The State Bank of India Officers’ Association [Chennai Circle] is the sole collective bargaining body of Six thousand two hundred and fifty Officers working in the State Bank of India offices and branches in the State of Tamil Nadu and Union Territory of Pondicherry. Its Primary objective is to unite all Officers working in the circle for collective bargaining purposes and to secure for its members better service and fair working conditions. It is also committed to redressing their grievances and improving the quality of life of its members, economically, socially and culturally. It was registered on August 14th, 1965 as ‘State Bank of India Officers’ Association [Madras Circle]’ under the Trade Union Act.
As part of its non-bargaining activity, the SBIOA [Chennai Circle] sponsored the State Bank Of India Officers’ Association Educational Trust in the year 1978 and was inaugurated on the 6th June 1979 to synchronize with International Year of the Child. The SBIOA Educational Trust was registered as a Society under Societies Registration Act, to establish and manage educational institutions for the benefit of the members’ children as well as deserving students irrespective of caste, colour or creed. The first project of the SBIOA Educational Trust was the school which was started in June 1979 at Anna Nagar Western Extension, Chennai in a compact area of 6.2 acres and at the same time i.e., 1979 the Trust had taken over the primary school in Madurai for developing it into a High School.
At present, the Trust runs five schools at Chennai and two each in Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore and one in Kochi and one in Salem. There are about 24,600 children studying in all thirteen schools. Also, the Trust has provided employment opportunities to nearly 1500 teaching and non-teaching staff in all thirteen schools. All the schools under the Management of the Trust are run efficiently providing cent percent results in Public Examination year after year. In order to ensure continuous professional development of our teachers, the Trust has an academy viz. SBIOA Higher Academy of Research and Professional Enhancement (SHARPEN)
